MIDDLE SCHOOL LIFE

ARE THERE A LOT OF CHANGES THIS YEAR?

There are a few changes but we are still asking all Middle School students to enter through the door at the Church foyer.  Attendance and lunch count will be taken there. Check in begins at 7:45 and ends at 7:55.  Middle School will be attending daily Mass this year. If a student has not been been checked in, they should report to the office, quickly put their materials on the chairs in the church foyer and then go directly to Mass using the steps at the back of the church (through Extended Care).  There will be a brief Homeroom period between the end of Mass and the beginning of First Period.  The Last class of the day ends at 3:25 and students should be on their way out the doors by 3:30.

Our Student Learning Expectations remain the same - We are respectful. We are responsible. We are compassionate. We are honest. We carry our values and our faith with us, no matter where we are. We strive for excellence in Mind, Heart and Hands. What these universals look like and sound like still varies from one school setting to another. Being respectful looks and sounds differently in the classroom than it does at recess.

A demerit-like system is used in Middle School.  Each student has a behavior card and if they choose poorly in regards to behavior, they have to record the date and the circumstances surrounding their choice on their card and sign it.  The teacher will also sign the card after reviewing it. Five card signings equal 1 detention. Detention lasts for 45 minutes and usually consists of sitting at a desk, hands folded, feet flat on the floor.  Sometimes the detention is served during recess - the choice is made by the middle school staff.  Yes, it's unpleasant and tiring.  A student that has more than 10 signatures at the end of a quarter cannot attend the end of the quarter celebration.

6th and 7th grade will be lining up at the recess door after lunch recess to re-enter the building and go to their lockers. 8th grade will be lining up at the back church foyer door.

Students are still free to go to their locker after any class but they must arrive at their next class on time.  If they report to class late, they will receive a tardy slip.  When they receive their second tardy slip, they must serve a recess detention.
