TFSD Newcomer Class
Grades 6-8
We are the Middle School Newcomer Classroom in the Twin Falls School District.
We are from Chad, Uganda, Tanzania, and Mexico. We have been in America from 3 weeks to almost 2 years. Our teachers are helping us to learn English and what we need to know for this project. We learned many things as we completed our product for the challenge.
3d printer
We can use a 3d printer to build things we need.
In our class, we learned about 3d printers. We learned the parts of printer, how the printer works, and how to make things with the printer.
We learned about Natural Resources so we could understand the challenge.
Natural Resources
Natural Resources are things in nature
renewable or nonrenewable
We learned about the Design Process and how it helps us to improve something or make it better.
Week 1
We each made a wall for a house in Tinkercad.
We learned about the parts of a house.
We drew sketches of our houses in Africa.
We went to a robotics tournament on January 12 to show our 3d printer and tell people what what we made in Tinkercad.
Week 2 Mud Houses and Rainy/Dry Seasons
We made prototype mud houses. We made 2 prototype roofs. A metal roof A thatched roof
The rain made the house fall. We need the awning to save the house.
week 3
Drainage and Clean Water Collection System
The rain made the house fall. We need to protect the house.
We need to save the rainwater for the drought.
We learned about drainage and how to improve our design.
We made a drainage prototype.
On Tuesday we worked To fix the drainage on Our prototype. We needed water in the pipe but the water was going down.

Awning System
Week 4
Sketches, Prototypes, and Iterations
We made a tank for saving the rainwater.
We made a pipe. The water goes from the gutter to the pipe, and then to the tank.
Week 4 Sketches and Building
We are finding out the right size and
angle for the awning.
