Dear Fifth Graders,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year in Fifth grade! I am Mrs. Covelli, and I will be your remote teacher this year. I hope you had an enjoyable summer filled with new experiences. I can’t wait to hear all about it! This summer was very different for all of us. I spent my days hiking, walking, and jogging around Long Island! I discovered how beautiful and interesting our island is!

I want to share a little about myself. For the past 6 months, my whole family, most of whom have grown up and moved away, all came back to live with me and my husband. We have a houseful! This will be my sixteenth year at Burns Avenue. I have been teaching 5th Grade for over 10 years. I will be working with Mrs. Lombardi, Mrs. O’Neill and Mrs. Roth to plan our curriculum. We have been busy planning lessons and getting ready for this very different year.

I am sure that like me, you are feeling a bit confused and possibly overwhelmed with how our school year will look. While there will be some changes this year, I am confident that our year together will be filled with fun and lots of learning!! I know that you are going to love Fifth grade! Now that you’ve picked up some of the supplies that you need to start off our year, make sure you have a desk or table to work on and a quiet, brightly lit spot to work while we are “in school”. I can’t wait to meet all of you on Monday morning at 8:30!
