School mental health helps break down barriers such as time constraints, transportation, etc. as well as promoting the relationships between schools and families by allowing therapeutic services to be provided directly in the school based setting.
My passion is working with children and families to provide quality therapeutic care while also meeting the families where they are. Client needs in the Elementary school setting span from anxiety, social skills, emotional regulation, and so on. As a school mental health clinician we work on a strengths based approach to help students build skills necessary for overall functioning . As a licensed social worker I am trained in clinical skills such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy, Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and various other clinical interventions.
Therapy can be scary, especially in the elementary school setting, it is important to know that all treatment goals are client and family centered and I am housed at the school 5 days a week to ensure optimal support. My overall goal is to leave each child that I serve feeling like they have a safe, stable support system within the school based setting that they can utilize to flourish and grow socially and emotionally.
