Mrs. Terry's Class

It has been so fun to be back in the lab this year! The Superworm Lab (students calculate the speed of the worm as it crawls across their table) proved to be quite exciting! Students were also amazed at the results of the Following Directions & Measuring Lab. If they followed the directions explicitly, the end result was a perfectly mixed rainbow solution!

Check out pictures from my recent trip to Red Rock Canyon (including a visit to the Keystone Thrust Fault). See if you can identify any of the following items: a conglomerate, erosion prevention, reverse faulting (older gray limestone on top of younger red sandstone), how limestone is formed, and formation of petrified wood.

We are covering the following standards during the 3rd quarter in Science:

  • Standard 8.E.4: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the universe and the predictable patterns caused by Earth’s movement in the solar system.

  • Standard 8.E.5: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the processes that alter the structure of Earth and provide resources for life on the planet.

Throughout the year this standard will be covered with a variety of performance indicators.

  • Standard 8.S.1: The student will use the science and engineering practices, including the processes and skills of scientific inquiry, to develop understandings of science content.
