The mission of Skyland Elementary School's school counseling program is to develop responsible, productive, lifelong learners by providing social, emotional, and academic supports to students while respecting individual differences.

This is how the American School Counselor Association describes the role of a school counselor

"School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. They lead, advocate and collaborate to promote equity and access for each and every student by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan. They uphold the ethical and professional standards of ASCA and promote the development of the school counseling program based on the following areas of the ASCA National Model®: Define, Deliver, Manage and Assess."

As a school counselor, my primary role is to support your child's academic, social, and emotional development. I work with students to help them build essential life skills such as healthy coping mechanisms, self-regulation, effective communication, and organizational abilities. My goal is to empower each child to develop self-love and self-efficacy, so they can feel confident and capable in school and beyond.

I work with students in three key ways:

I alternate weeks with the library to visit your child's classroom. During these sessions, I provide whole-group lessons on topics like friendship skills, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving. These lessons are a great opportunity for me to connect with every student and create a safe, supportive environment where everyone can learn and grow together. You can check the lesson plan tab on my page to see what we'll be covering!

I lead small groups of 5-6 students for 4-6 weeks to focus on specific skills. These groups are designed to support students who can benefit from targeted interventions in areas like behavior management, grief, or social skills. Participation is based on a signed permission form, so not every child will join a small group.

For students who need more focused support, I offer one-on-one sessions. These are for children experiencing big feelings or big life changes and need extra help navigating their emotions and challenges.

If you feel your child would benefit from individual or group support, please use the contact page to submit a request.
