Mission:

The mission of the Lake Forest Elementary School media center is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.

Vision:

The media center supports the school’s instructional program, extending and enhancing the students’ learning experiences, while also fostering a love of learning and reading in all students. The media center serves as the information center of the school community and encourages students to seek, explore, and practice those information-seeking skills exhibited by lifelong learners.


Media Specialist Teaching Goals:


  • Provide a program that is fully integrated into the school's curriculum and is central to the learning process.

  • Provide access to a variety of information representing a wide range of subjects and difficulty levels.

  • Provide learning experiences that encourage users to become discriminating consumers, skilled creators of information, and lifelong learners.

  • Provide leadership, instruction, and consulting assistance in the design of learning strategies and the use of information and the use of information technology.

  • Promote the enjoyment of reading, listening, and viewing for users.

  • Participate in partnerships, including networks, which provide access to information outside the school.

  • Promote school-wide literacy and reading initiatives, events, and activities.

  • Promote innovative media services through professional growth and continuous learning.

Media Specialist Collection Development Goals:


  • Ensure that materials are current, accurate, diverse, developmentally appropriate and aligned with curriculum content standards and the school’s instructional program.

  • Ensure that resources meet the recreational needs of the media center users, as much as possible.
