March 20, 2018
This week we are taking an animal kingdom test on Thursday. Students have been given a study guide and it will be open note. On Friday we will pick back up with Part 3 of our Zoo PBL where students will design a blueprint for their Zoo exhibit.
March 13, 2018
Part 2 of the Zoo PBL is due Wednesday! In this section, students are researching the animals they are including in their zoo exhibit. Students have had time in class to work on it. If it is not finished, it becomes homework. (Part 2 is posted on Google Classroom). Thursday and Friday we will be studying natural selection and different types of camouflage as we complete a "Blending Butterflies" hands-on exploration. Next week we will work on the final part to the Zoo PBL which is creating a blueprint or model of their zoo exhibits.
Next week we will also have a test on Tuesday (the 20th) or Wednesday (the 21st). This will cover animals and their structures or behaviors that enable them to survive in their environment.
March 6, 2018
This week there is no homework as we are beginning our Zoo PBL. Students will be working in teams to design a biome-based zoo exhibit. This will be an in-class project. All of the tasks will be uploaded onto Google Classroom.
February 28, 2018
This week, students are presenting their organisms. I have really enjoyed seeing their creativity in this assignment! We are also reading two different articles about zoos. Zoos are shifting more towards biome-based models instead of keeping animals in species-separate enclosures. This is preparing us for our study of biomes and an upcoming zoo exhibit project. Students should be studying their Invertebrate Chart. We will have an open- notebook quiz on invertebrates Monday. Another good resource for studying is my Quizlet Site.
February 20, 2018
Today we started out with an open-ISN PowerUp pop quiz. Students used the remaining time to work on their Design Your Own Organism project. Wednesday, guidance counselor Ms. Bailey will be in our classroom helping students get registered for 7th grade. Thursday and Friday we will be creating more vocabulary cards for Heads Up and reading two different articles about zoos to prepare for our upcoming zoo project.
February 15, 2018
See above for our Design Your Own Organism Project - due Feb. 26th!
February 13, 2018
Today and tomorrow we are creating a double bar graph that compares the number of known species in each of the five kingdoms (plant, animal, fungi, protist, bacteria) between the year 2000 and the year 2016. We are also looking at specimens of different vertebrates and invertebrates that are preserved in jars and discussing their characteristics. Students will be given a two-week assignment beginning this week to design their own organism! They will have to come up with their organism's physical characteristics, place in the food chain, ways of movement, habitat, defense mechanisms, etc. Check Google Classroom for more details :)
February 6, 2018
We have learned about the 7 Levels of Taxonomy (the study of classification of organisms): Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. Wednesday there will be a 20 question test on Socrative. (Students should have flash cards and notes they can study). They are also allowed to bring their PEDs to class. Thursday and Friday we will be creating double bar graphs related to biodiversity of the different kingdoms.
Coloring taxonomy sheet is due Friday!! (They will have some time to work on this in class)
January 29, 2018
This week we have weather benchmark testing on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we will continue our study of dichotomous keys and taxonomy. Notebooks will be checked Monday and Tuesday. No homework this week!
