Teaching Experience
I begin my teaching career in 1984 in a 1st grade classroom in a private school in Greenville. In 1985, I moved to k-4 for a very interesting year! After being a stay at home mom, I began teaching 1st grade at Grove Elementary and eventually taught 3rd grade for 8 years, 5th grade for 1 year, and 2nd grade for 1 year. In 2002, I moved to Westcliffe Elementary and began teaching 2nd grade where I eventually moved to 3rd grade and then 4th grade. In 2004, I received National Board Certification in early Childhood Education, and in 2014 I renewed that certification. After 27 years of teaching in a classroom, I moved to a new position of Literacy Specialist, which I have done for the last four years. Please feel free to e-mail, write a note, or call me if you have any concerns.

Philosophy of Education
I believe all children can learn and be successful. I believe learning involves teachers, principals, parents, and the community. I believe an effective learning environment is based on a positive and interesting atmosphere. I believe students should be actively involved in learning through the use of "hands on" activities. I believe learning should involve critical thinking, problem solving, effective communication skills, and the creative process. I believe all children should feel safe and confident in the school environment. I believe children learn by various methods and each learning style should be addressed.
