Melissa Bean
2023-2024 Lakeview Middle School Teacher of the Year
Welcome to ESOL! This is my sixteenth-year teaching English and my fifth-year at Lakeview Middle School. I teach ESOL Fundamentals Level 2 and co-teach in a seventh-grade ELA class. I hold a certification in ESOL (English to Speakers of other Languages) and a bachelor’s degree in middle-level ELA. I am currently a graduate student at Clemson University working towards a Masters in Educational Leadership, and I am enrolled in a Spanish immersion school working on my second language.
Teaching students who speak languages other than English is very rewarding. The relationships I form with my students is the most important part of my role as an ESOL teacher. I want my students to trust that I will always advocate for them and know that their best interest will always be my priority. The well-being of my students – intellectual, emotional, physical, and social – is always my number one concern.
