When can I apply for National Honor Society?
You can apply when applications open - you will receive an invitation to apply if you meet all of the requirements. The Application is called the "Candidate Information Form."
How should I get Teacher Recommendations?
Teacher recommendations should be a document typed by the teacher, printed, and then sealed in an envelope. Recommendation letters should be sealed prior to giving them to the student.
What are the NHS requirements?
You need to be a junior or senior, maintain a 3.5 GPA, and demonstrate excellent character, a desire to serve, and a desire to lead your fellow students.
Why should I join NHS?
NHS can be added to your college applications and resume; NHS has numerous scholarship opportunities that students can apply for; NHS provides students with various leadership opportunities and the ability to serve their school and community.
How do I get my service hours?
Students can receive their yearly service hours by being involved with the NHS-sponsored services projects, lunch tutoring, and other community outreach activities.
How should I submit my application?
Students should make a copy of the application found above. They should be as thorough as possible when considering their leadership, service, etc. Once the form is complete, students should print their form and acquire the necessary teacher recommendations. Applications should be brought to Ms. Megan Wright in room 115 by the application deadline.
Please know: Applications that are received via another student or teacher will not be considered for membership. Students should hand deliver the application to Ms. Wright. Please don't slide it under her door or have a teacher place the application in her mailbox unless extenuating circumstances apply - email Ms. Wright beforehand to discuss. Thanks!!
When will I be invited to join?
Rising Juniors will be invited to apply to NHS midway through Quarter 3 of their Sophomore year. The induction ceremony will be held in the spring of each year.
What about graduation?
Graduating seniors will receive a stole to wear at graduation during the senior awards ceremony and their association with NHS will be highlighted during the senior awards ceremony.
What is the meeting schedule and what does participation in the club look like?
Meetings will be held twice a month from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. We have approximately 20 meetings a year (2 a month) - attendance at no fewer than 15 of those meetings is required to continue to be in good standing with the Southside chapter of NHS. Additional meetings will be scheduled as the President and Advisor deem necessary; attendance will be optional at additional meetings.
Students must participate in no less than 50% of all scheduled events and no less than 50% of all scheduled fundraisers.
