Welcome!

About Me

Hello and Welcome to my virtual English Class!

I'm Mrs. Rutledge, and I have been a teacher basically forever--certainly longer than I'm likely to admit today! This is my ninth year at Mauldin, but, with the exception of last Spring, the first time I've taught virtual classes. I hope I'll be picking up new skills and ways of doing things as I go along, but the bad news is that I don't have it all completely perfected yet, so there may be a few glitches. Fortunately, my son's graduate school classes have gone all virtual as well, so I have a resident technical expert who can help me figure it out. I'm really glad to have an on-hand consultant!

I also have another son who is in and out of my house, and my husband and I have been married for, again, more years than I'm willing to admit--but we've been married since we were 21, so it has been a while. In addition to teaching, I love music, cooking, and especially reading. I also am a pet parent to two cats, one of whom makes frequent appearances in my teaching videos. The one who doesn't is too fat to get up on the back of my chair.

I'm looking forward to working with students this year as we go forward with what has up until now, for me at least, been unexplored territory. I'm always up for a new adventure!

Please check in daily in your classroom to be counted present, review the daily greeting video, and then click the Classwork tab and go to the Unite Modules folder to find the hyperdoc with links to everything you need to know for the week. Plan to attend the live sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays at the times and links on the hyperdoc, and send me an e-mail if you need help or any clarification.

Live Sessions

You should have viewed the instructional videos through that day for the work that we will be doing, and then come to the live sessions to review and address concerns. During those sessions, I will offer additional explanations and supplemental instruction and facilitate your working virtually on projects and assignments. You will have the opportunity to explore the material more in depth, and work with me and with each other. Links to the live sessions will be published weekly. You are encouraged to attend in person, but the sessions will be recorded and available for you to view if for some reason you are unable to be there live. Times for the meets are aligned with the time that class would be meeting in a brick-and-mortar classroom, but the time the meets last varies with student needs and concerns, as well as the relative complexity of the material we are addressing.
