Film Criticism

Class Description

Criticism is an art, and like any art there is usually a foundation knowledge that is required to excel at it. The goal of this class is to cover several of the key fundamentals while also allowing the students to participate in the public realm of conversations and creation. Images are everywhere around us in our culture today, and film/movie/television/web videos are all types and collections of images that have been sequenced together to tell a story. One of the greatest abilities and privileges that humanity posse is the opportunity to participate in and experience these stories.


Class Goals-

  1. To think about and consider the historical aspects of film, and to consider the future of film and movie making.
  2. To gain an appreciation for a variety of types of films.
  3. To recognize key components of what makes up a film.
  4. To communicate both personal opinions and facts about what goes into a film, and the story telling aspects of film.
  5. To create and develop as a film/video/movie maker.
