Welcome to Building Construction Technology

                       Dennis Pedersen

Welcome to the 2023-2024 academic year!

Building Construction Technology program has been a staple for some years now at Donaldson Career Center. Both first and second year students will be introduced to the Building Construction curriculum as adopted by the SC Dept. of Education. First year students receive a cursory overview of the entire building process from Site selection, Footing and Foundation, Rough Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC and Finish work. Second year students will often select a favorite trade but will be expected to sharpen their skills in all disciplines.

The students will be instructed in appropriate OSHA safety standards and earn an OSHA 10 Credential considered necessary for employment in the construction industry, They will be exposed to all the skilled trades and be provided hands on experience in Masonry, Carpentry, Electrical and plumbing along with exposure to many of the subcontractor trades which support the construction industry.

In addition, many Local, Skilled Trades companies have offered to provide hands on trade experience at their locations as well as in the field to those who qualify.  There is also an optional paid, 3rd year "Work Based Learning" program for those second year Juniors who have accepted a position and have a year yet to graduate. Field trips and on site events have been planned throughout the year with local Construction firms.

Donaldson Career Center is a cell phone free zone. Students will be expected to follow the rules and conduct themselves in the classroom, on site and in the shop in a mature, responsible, adult manner, just as if they were on the job site. Failure to follow posted rules will first result in a verbal reprimand, second a formal written referral and finally some Administrative action will be taken.

There is an open door policy here at Donaldson so please feel free to contact me at any time. I am looking forward to an exciting year of discovery.
