We are one of the 13 academic councils that comprises the Graduate Student Association (GSA). Through GSA we advocate for our students and fight for many different things (including an emergency hardship fund, parking priorities, food insecurity programs, campus safety, protections from abusive advisors, promoting diversity at UCLA, and lowering graduate student housing insecurity). Each academic council receives a portion of your student fees that can be used to fund events, goods, or services that benefit our constituents.

We also allocate a portion specifically to each department to spend as they see fit. The council - which is comprised of a few officers and at least one representative from each department - discusses and votes on how to use these funds. Anyone is welcome to come and present at BSC Meetings and ask for money to fund events. etc. in service of the above departments. We are also more than happy to collaborate with other academic councils or students groups at UCLA and fund joint events. Please email bsc@ucla.edu to get added to the agenda for the next meeting.

Generally we hold two socials every year and a few networking and career building events, but we are always looking for suggestions. We try to create new and innovative ways to help our constituents connect and prepare for the future.
