2022 Death Valley Open Water Race

Congratulations to our Excel swimmers who competed in the 2022 Death Valley open water race in Clemson SC this past weekend. Our small group of swimmers had a fun day of white water rafting followed by a fast day of open water racing.

On Friday, we stopped in Ocoee, TN and spent three hours rafting on the Ocoee river through class 2-3 rapids. Even though the water was brisk, we did all jump in for a swim during a calm stretch.

The next morning, we joined up with the 3 swimmers from Ensworth and hit the water in both the 5k and 3k races. Our big story was Nicole Caruso who won the 15-18 Girls 5k, defending her title from last year in a time of 1:10:00.38. Our other 15-18 5K finisher was Sammy Ibrahim who finished 12th.

Our 13-14 year old boys in the 5K were Zaki Ibrahim who finished 3rd and Cameron Conley who was 4th.

Excel had two swimmers in the 3k race, Evan Hayes who finished 3rd in the 15-18 age group and Macey DeMotte who finished 5th for 11-12.

USA Swimming's Virtual Club Rankings

USA Swimming uses a ranking system to allow teams to objectively compare their clubs against each other. The scoring system is complex (explained in the link below) but informative. Over the last couple of seasons, we have finished up between 46th and 51st out of the 3,500 clubs in the country. But as of this writing, we are currently sitting 33rd!! If you've ever thought about becoming a USA Swimming Meet Official, please join us for one or both of our clinics during the Firecracker Invite. Whether you are interested in working at the table as an Admin Official or poolside as a Stroke and Turn Judge, we have a clinic for you! There is no commitment, we welcome you to come learn more and ask any questions you may have about these fun and fulfilling opportunities to serve our swimmers.

The clinics will be offered on Saturday (Stroke and Turn) and Sunday (Admin Official) in Hospitality following the conclusion of the 13 and over prelims. No need to sign-up, just show up!
