Congratulations to all of our Seniors and their families on their graduations this week. While the senior is the only one who receives the diploma, graduation is the result of years of full-family teamwork. Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends are often the pit crew working behind the scenes to get these folks across the finish line and onto the next stage of their lives. So a huge Excel "Congrats" goes out to each and every one of you!
We are so proud to announce that Excel's class of 2022 is sending 10 swimmers on to swim next year in college! We will be represented at all 3 NCAA Divisions and the NAIA as well. What's even more exciting is that this class continues our strong tradition of developing athletes from our age group program. While we have had some folks join us later in their career, most of our senior swimmers are products of Excel. These are our college swimming bound swimmers and the age when they started with Excel:
Hannah Jyawook 18
Sam DeMotte 14
Alli Wells 14
Cooper Sledge 14
Tino Ferranti 11
Hudson Lowery 10
Meredith DiPasquale 9
Hayden Milligan 9
Nicole Caruso 7
Zoe Summar 6
USA Swimming uses a ranking system to allow teams to objectively compare their clubs against each other. The scoring system is complex (explained in the link below) but informative. Over the last couple of seasons, we have finished up between 46th and 51st out of the 3,500 clubs in the country. But as of this writing, we are currently sitting 27th!! You can check it all out here.
Announcements
All of our parent volunteers play a vital role in hosting meets. We simply could not host meets in your absence. While most jobs take little training or experience, meet officials go through an educational and training process that enables them to help officiate at all meets. In fact, our own Excel officials have outnumbered the host team officials in both our first two meets. We are very grateful to our officiating crew but are always looking for new members. Meet officials
Ensure a safe and fair competition for all our athletes
Satisfy all their volunteer requirements
Have the best seat in the pool
Have access to hospitality

One of the best aspects of our sport is the connectivity of swimmers across the different age groups. Very few sports offer potential teammate relationships to athletes who may be more than a decade apart. These relationships are welcome the newest swimmers and their families to our team.
This past short course season, the Brentwood site initiated a mentor program that pared our 8 and under swimmers with teenage swimmers and we are now expanding that to all the sites. But to do so, we need volunteers! Here's what we need:
13 and over swimmers. You would serve as the mentor and inspiration for a younger swimmer.
Parents (of the mentors). You would serve to engage with the families of the younger swimmers, especially if they are new to the sport.
Site coodinator. You would be responsible to pairing up the swimmers (and families) for your site.
Swimmer Responsibilities
Start of Season (early Sept) - Introduce yourself to your 8 and Under swimmer via a note in their folder.
Fall Fest Meet (late Sept) - provide a note of encouragement and small gift (i.e. candy or another inexpensive trinket) for your 8 and Under swimmer.
Meet of Champs (early Dec) - write a short note about your MOC experience.
Christmas (late Dec) - swim cap exchange.
Mardi Gras Meet (late Jan) - write a short note encouraging their participation.
SES Region Meet (middle of Feb) - provide a small inexpensive gift for your 8 and Under swimmer. This is their championship meet, as SES cuts are rare for the 8 and Under swimmers.
Parent Responsibilities
Early September - Reach out via email to your paired family and introduce yourself.
Season Long - Just generally be available, via email, to answer any questions they might have. Maybe reach out prior to meets to see if they have questions.
Mentor Coordinator Responsibilities
Pair new swimmers/families with mentor volunteers.
Send reminders via email to mentors regarding upcoming dates/deadlines.
Generally facilitate the success of the program.
Until we finalize registration in August, we won't have firm numbers but we would still like to get an idea of who might be interested in participating in this program. If you would like to be involved, please complete the Excel Mentor Google Form . You are not obligated in any way, and someone will double check with you in the fall to ensure you still wish to be involved.
June 4th- Death Valley Open Water
June 17-19th- Firecracker Meet
Our Weekly Update for 5-27-22 has been released so check it out!
You may have noticed that we are receiving intros from a wide variety of sources. SEC champions, officials, swim moms and vendors are just some of the folks who have made an appearance. If you are traveling and want to send us an intro from a unique location, we'll be sure to include it. Interested in seeing where they all come from so far?
Check out Excel Aquatics from all around the world!
