2022 TYR Invite

Another meet is in the books and we have lots to be excited about! For starters, these last two meets have been unique in that we have scored both of them. Team scores aren't usually used early in the season as they don't tell the whole story but they do provide a measuring stick of how we stack up against these very strong teams. We are therefore very excited that we won.

More importantly, we had lots of individual performances that are worth celebrating. Jax Brodoski's 200 Free time of 2:11.15 is not only a AAAA time but a new Excel team record. We also achieved a new Future's cut in Gwen Bakker's 100 Breast time of 1:14.96. But what may have been the most exciting stat however, was that we qualified 9 more new swimmers for the Southeastern Swimming Championships. In the last two meets, we have added 19 more swimmers to that meet, 16 of which are in the youngest half of their age group! Congratulations to all our swimmers who competed this last weekend and look for the full meet report below.

USA Swimming's Virtual Club Rankings

USA Swimming uses a ranking system to allow teams to objectively compare their clubs against each other. The scoring system is complex (explained in the link below) but informative. Over the last couple of seasons, we have finished up between 46th and 51st out of the 3,500 clubs in the country. But as of this writing, we are currently sitting 15th!! Announcements

D1 Sports

Our partnership with D1 sports in Cool Springs is continuing on through the summer. For the last 8 weeks, we have had a group of 13 and over athletes working with them twice a week which has been going well. Beginning at the half way point, D1 has agreed to open up registration to anyone who would like to join for the second half. Beginning on Wednesday 6/2, our schedule will be switching to Monday and Wednesday from 1:00-2:00pm. For anyone who was hoping to sign up for the summer only, they are offering registration this week. You can register and pay here. Please remember to do so on a laptop vs a phone.

Want to become an official?

All of our parent volunteers play a vital role in hosting meets. We simply could not host meets in your absence. While most jobs take little training or experience, meet officials go through an educational and training process that enables them to help officiate at all meets. In fact, our own Excel officials have outnumbered the host team officials in both our first two meets. We are very grateful to our officiating crew but are always looking for new members. Ensure a safe and fair competition for all our athletes
Satisfy all their volunteer requirements
Have the best seat in the pool
Have access to hospitality

Swim Instructors Needed

We are looking for summer swim instructors to work with our swim school. It's a great way to help teach an important life skill, introduce new swimmers into the Excel Family, and even earn extra summer cash. If you are age 15 or older, have experience with all four competitive strokes, and want to train the next generation of Excel swimmers then this is the perfect opportunity for you. If you are a Senior swimmer with Excel, we are happy to work around your practice/meet schedule and in most cases your summer travel. Interested candidates should contact the Swim School Director at your site, listed below.

Death Valley Open Water Swim

Registration for the 2022 Death Valley Open water race will close this week. If you are interested in signing up, please do so by Wednesday, May 25th. The race is on Saturday, June 4th in Clemson SC. This is a rare opportunity to race open water in preparation to sending athletes to Open Water Nationals in 2023. Like last year, we will also tag on a white water rafting trip in Ocoee, TN on Friday June 3rd. This will be a 3 hour afternoon trip that is open to all swimmers and their families (12 and older) and the cost is $45/person. All costs will be charged to your Excel account. Note- The Southeastern LSC has decided to not send a team to Open Water Zones so this opportunity becomes even more important.
