About Me....

Welcome to 5th grade! My name is Stephanie Cowan and I am SO excited to be your child's 5th or 5th/6th Math teacher this year!!

Before the year gets started, I'd love to tell you a little bit about myself. This school year will be my 19th year of teaching. I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and now 5th grade! I graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education as well as received my Masters from Concordia University as an Educational Reading Specialist. I have a strong belief that Math is unfortunately a subject that is feared by many students. My passion is to turn that fear into a new found love for this subject by engaging students through personal, real life stories, that can be related to the math skill at hand. Ultimately, making real world connections through Math drives successful applications in their work. Another fun fact is that my husband is a Calculus teacher at our very own WHS....go Chaps...go Math!!!!

A bit about who I am outside of the CCE walls....

I have a passion for martial arts (I'm a first degree black belt)! I don't currently practice the art, but this is where I met my husband 26 years ago so karate holds a special place in my heart. My husband is an avid collector of sports cars so I'll always have different muscle cars in my driveway with crazy stories to go along with them. I have 3 beautiful daughters: Ava (8th grade...HCMS), Laine (5th grade...CCE), and Aubrey (2nd grade....CCE). We also welcomed a new baby boy, Beckham, to our family last year (1 year...VVE CDC). My heart is completely full with being both a girl and now boy mom!! We live in beautiful Dripping Springs where we can escape the busy Austin life and just relax in a quiet country setting with family and friends after school and on the weekends! We have a small zoo at our house which my students will hear all about throughout their time with me this year! We have two English bulldogs (Tank & Tiny) and a cat (Cosmo). My favorite thing to do every morning before I get to school is drive through Chick-fil-A to buy a large diet Dr. Pepper!! My students last year found great pleasure in bringing in 12 packs of diet Dr. Pepper for me on special occasions.....I just love them for that :)

I look forward to learning about each and every student this year as well as growing and fostering their love for one of the most amazing subjects EVER!!!
