Principal Economist, U.S. Census Bureau
I am a principal economist in the Center for Economic Studies at the U.S. Census Bureau. My research focuses on income mobility, income growth, and low-wage workers, primarily using rich demographic and administrative records linked at the person level. Published research includes examinations into the anti-poverty effect and program efficiency of the EITC, intergenerational income mobility by race and ethnicity, and the effects of casino operations on American Indian communities. Ongoing research includes analyses of worker income growth and dynamics over time and the impact of import competition on places and people.
My contributions to public-use data include participation in the development of the Opportunity Atlas and spearheading the Mobility, Opportunity, and Volatility Statistics project. My research has been published in top economics and demography journals, including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Human Resources, the Journal of Public Economics, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, and Demography.
