Steer selection - COVID-19 protocols - limiting the number of people in the area to allow for social distancing

  • Since state social distancing guidelines have called for all school buildings to be closed, the 2021 CFISD Steer Selection will primarily be a virtual process. Unless something changes, students will be allowed to come to the barn and pick up their steer in person. We thank the CFISD administration for allowing us to design a process that will both honor social distancing requirements for school districts and allow our show to go on!

  • The in-person draw will be replaced by a computerized randomizer. We will use the website random.org/lists/. We will type in the list of the 2021 CFISD steer raisers and select "randomize". The list will then be posted on this website.

  • The in-person 30-minute viewing period will be replaced by the posting of videos of each steer.

  • Steer pick-up: On the day of selection, as students arrive at the facility, they will be given a card with their draw number and directed to a parking space. Students will place their card on their windshield and remain in the vehicle until called. All persons should wear masks (purchased or homemade) when on the premises. In the order of their "draw", students will have 10 minutes to personally view the cattle and make their selection. They will have the option of bringing in someone to help them with their selection (see the regular guidelines for a description of who that can be), as long as they agree to keep a 6 foot social distance between them and their helper, if their helper is not an immediate family member. Once they have chosen a steer, their choice will be posted on the website and the student will be escorted out of the selection area and given further directions based on the final destination of their steer. The next student will then enter the selection area and their 10-minute personal viewing time will begin.
