Make Earth Day Every Day

Grades 3-5: Interactive livestream

Overview

Planet Earth is the only planet that supports a diverse system of life: plants, animals, and us! So how can we support Earth by understanding, respecting and protecting Earth's amazing ecosystems? What can we learn from Indigenous Peoples as they connect with nature today, both culturally and through their traditional ecological knowledge?

This Earth Day join us as we explore these questions through the lens of redwood forests. Students will discover the interconnection of life throughout this ecosystem - including humans! At the end of the program, students will reflect on how we can all collaborate to celebrate Earth Day Every Day.

Extension activities for students

Teachers can find optional extension activities that are designed to be self-directed by the students or used as class group work and maybe built upon by the teacher if they desire.

How does it work?

This program lasts approximately 45 minutes, is taught by a team of professional educators, and is broadcast to multiple classes at the same time via YouTube Live. Students will interact with the educators through browser-based polls and hands-on activities.

The program also works well for classes who meet asynchronously because the link for the recording will be shared.

Schedule: Friday, April 22, 2022

This program is designed for grades 3-5, but all are welcome.
Select the time that works best for your student(s):

  • 9:45 am PT for presentation in English only

Registration is now closed, but don't fret! The recording will be posted here by 12pm PT on April 22.

  • Cause and Effect: Cause and effect relationships are routinely identified, tested, and used to explain change.

  • Systems and System Models: A system can be described in terms of its components and their interactions.

Disciplinary Core Ideas

  • ESS3.C: Human Impacts on Earth Systems: Human activities in agriculture, industry, and everyday life have had major effects on the land, vegetation, streams, ocean, air, and even outer space. But individuals and communities are doing things to help protect Earth’s resources and environments. (5-ESS3-1)
