Fairmont AVID

Welcome to Fairmont AVID! 

 Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a school wide system that helps students to achieve the necessary requirements and skills to be eligible for acceptance and success in college and career.  Students who are enrolled in the AVID Elective class will benefit from tutorials and the AVID curriculum.  Tutorials occur twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursday). Tutorials are small study groups that are facilitated by college students who assist students with their studies.  Each AVID student is to come prepared for the tutorial with questions from their core classes.  Field trips may be scheduled to visit local colleges and universities, providing students with the opportunity to visit the institutions firsthand.    

AVID students are expected to be motivated and determined to achieve university, military, or career acceptance at the end of their high school career.  It will be necessary for AVID students to manage their time so that school and studies become a top priority.  This means that they will need to be responsible for making wise and sometimes difficult choices.  Students are expected to demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and respect for others.  The work that they submit must be their own.

Fairmont is an AVID National Demonstration School (only 2% of schools worldwide have this distinction!)

AVID students take accelerated classes! AVID students have a higher GPA when compared to that of the entire FJH student body!

Fairmont AVID students are role models, student leaders and involved in our school and community!
