Bring Your Own Device
Ballarat High School students, parents and staff communicate, collaborate and learn using relevant and modern online platforms. These include email, Compass, Google Apps for Education, interactive digital textbooks and online video. Ballarat High School implements a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program with all students in years 7 to year 12 bringing a laptop to support their learning.
Which type of laptop should my child bring?
We do not specify a particular type or brand of laptop. Students may bring either a new or existing laptop. We recommend a robust case is purchased to protect the laptop when it is brought to school

There are two choices when purchasing a device; an offer via the Ballarat High School purchasing portal, or your own preferred store.

What's the difference?
Windows is a standard operating system which is used by many laptops around the world, it will run software and perform any task a student may need.
Chromebooks are a simplified laptop that are ideal for word processing and web browsing, however they cannot run some software such as Photoshop and most video games. The main benefit of choosing a Chromebook is that it is very budget-friendly compared to a Windows-based device.
