Reimagining Betty Brinn Children’s Museum came to me by recognizing the signage presenting itself with a mundane presence in Museum Center Park among Milwaukee’s greatest contemporary architecture.
A reimagination and a new site closer to the lake could invigorate BBCM and Milwaukee's East Side.
With its 10-year nonrenewable lease counting down, the relocation of the museum is inevitable. Its existing 26,000 sq. ft space exudes a rather dated appearance in and out. I have studied Design, Sculpture, Illustration, Biology, Mold-Making, and the Building Trades intensely and performed at length throughout my college career; It is through a lens shaped by those experiences that I assessed the current museum.
A building that uses the lake and child-like qualities to inspire form and function with exaggerated color, scale, textures, and shapes will grant the new build a unique style. Exploring iterations, refining plans, sections, elevations, perspectives, and creating models of the new building, using both digital and traditional methods, to develop a structure that goes above and beyond in inspiring children.
