Yuma Educational Technology Consortium

The YETC was created to handle all of the technology needs for both Yuma School District One and Yuma Union High School District.  The YETC currently...
  • Employs 43 people ranging from Tech Support to Software Development.
  • Has an annual operating budget of 3.3 million dollars.
  • Services over 9,000 Windows XP PC and Apple OS X systems.
  • Supports 2,500 staff and 20,000 students from K - 12.
  • Provides full support for eSIS student information system and state reporting.
  • Supports and maintains Avaya VoIP system, with over 1500 hand sets.
  • Supports and maintains both Visions and 1032 financial software systems for the districts.
  • Is developing the "Compass" financial software suite for YUHSD and Tempe Union High School District.
  • Supports 50+ servers running Free BSD, Windows, and OS X operating systems.
  • Is converting both districts to a shared Active Directory/Open Directory, directory system.
Through consolidation efforts such as eSIS, shared Internet services, open source programs and shared human resources, the efforts of the YETC save the districts hundreds of thousands of dollars annually.  Some specific examples of our savings include...
  • The use of Google Apps for our e-mail and calendaring programs, free to all K-12 institutions.  The enterprise version is 50 dollars per user per year resulting in a savings of $125,000 annually.
  • The use of Free BSD for our file servers allows us to save thousands annually on licensing for Active Directory and integrates with both Apple OS X and Windows XP Operating Systems.
  • By sharing a single 90 mb circuit to the Internet our clients are able to save dollars by only needing a single router for both districts, and procuring a better price for the service by purchasing more bandwidth than they would as separate entities.
  • Combined services such as tech support, systems analysis, and network technicians that work for both entities allow us to benefit by saving in human resource costs.
  • The implementation of our new WAN in 2009 will allow us to save in hardware costs by implementing a SAN solution for District One eliminating at least 15 servers from the network, saving tens of thousands of dollars.
