Student Intervention Programs

Mentoring Program:
  • Faculty, Admin, and Staff Members provide one-on-one mentorship to students on campus
  • Sophomore and Junior Students are selected, based on the following criteria:
    • GPA at or below 2.0
    • Student can complete enough credits to graduate in four years
    • Student has not received excessive disciplinary action, is general track, and likely to fall "between the cracks"
  • Mentors check in with student 1-2 times a month to provide a personal connection / positive adult influence

HOWL:
  • Program where upperclassmen help transition incoming freshmen to WHHS before/at beginning of school year
  • HOWL leaders check in with freshmen to help adjust to high school life.

HOWL Tutoring:
  • Daily tutoring, period 1, where selected HOWL leaders help students with classwork.

PAL Tutoring:
  • Under faculty supervision, Honors/AP juniors & seniors are paid to provide individual and small-group tutoring (groups of 1 to 3 tutored students) to struggling freshmen
  • Tutors are compensated for their tutoring to students, and apply for their position.
  • PAL tutoring coordinator has weekly communication with parents.
  • Teachers of potential students are recommended by teachers.

Departmental Tutoring:
  • Tutoring provided by individual departments to assist students.
