Windsor Volunteer Ambulance is very fortunate to have a strong staff of instructors, educators, and field training officers, all with a wide variety expertise. We offer classes ranging from CPR to Basic Life Support training. Our staff, in cooperation with Hartford Hospital, Capital Community College, and St. Francis Hospital, is able to provide our members, and the public with the training they require for their safety and for the safety and care of others.
Special Projects
CPR Anytime Program
We at Windsor Volunteer Ambulance,
Inc care about our community. Aside from delivering 24 hour access to
emergency medical care, we believe that great care begins with great
training. In addition to the Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) Program,
the American Heart Association started the personal learning program,
CPR Anytime ®. This allows the participants who take the class to review
the basics of CPR skills at their own pace with the complete package
including a manikin, a training DVD and workbook. It includes an adult
CPR reminder card and the child and infant CPR reminder card that is
small enough to carry in a wallet for an instant refresher. While there
is no certification card, this class offers a great opportunity for
individuals who would like to learn basic CPR skills. The class would
be approximately 1 hour long. The DVD is about 25 minutes, and the other
35 minutes would be dedicated to individualized training, information
and questions. Below is a list of what the DVD offers:
recognize signs of
heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking in adults
recognize signs of
choking in infants and children
reduce the risk of
sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and prevent the most common fatal
injuries to infants and children.
Please check back regularly in the Training section to
see when the next community class is being offered!
We also offer many other certification
programs that include:
CPR for the Healthcare Professional
Initial Classes and Refreshers
Heartsaver CPR, AED and First
Aid Initial Classes and Refreshers
eLearning Courses
Other classes can be offered upon
request. Our training department offers classes at WVA and also can
come out to areal businesses, schools and daycares to teach. Please
contact Laura Kennedy Bryant at 860-688-8244 x113 for more information.
Bicycle Patrol
The WVA Bicycle Patrol is utilized where immediate medical care can be more easily provided by vehicles better able to penetrate large crowds and heavy traffic.
Bike team members are Emergency Medical Services Certified Cyclists, who work events such as the Shad Derby, Parades, NWP Activities, and various local Sporting Events. With a few exceptions, each team of two cyclists carries virtually the same equipment found on board our ambulances, but in smaller quantities.
Christmas Toy Drive
WVA in concert with the Windsor Police Department and the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department, collects toys during the holiday season just in time for Santa to deliver the toys to needy Windsor families. The Toy Drive is held in front of the Fire Department on Bloomfield Avenue and Santa is there for free photos with anyone who donates an item.
