"They all know it is there, all the people of Omelas. Some of them have come to see it, others are content merely to know it is there. They all know that is has to be there. Some of them understand why, and some do not, but they all understand that their happiness, the beauty of their city and the health of their children depend wholly on this child's abominable misery."

Welcome to Omelas. Beautiful one day, perfect the next. Next week, Utopia. Just don’t look in the basement…

What is a fair price to pay for Utopia? How far would you go to maintain a paradise for you and yours? Welcome to Omelas, a paradise where all the citizens live in a state of complete bliss – except for a single child, left to waste away in the basement.

Towards Omelas is an atmospheric new theatre piece that takes as its starting point the mythical town of Omelas as created by acclaimed author Ursula Le Guin. Inspired by the writings of William James, Dostoevsky and Artaud, Omelas is a timely fable that explores themes of social justice and personal accountability, presented in a distinct world that challenges all of the senses of the audience.
