What is Health Science:

The comprehensive Health Science Education program seeks to meet present and predicted needs for health care workers within a health care delivery system that is characterized by diversity and changing technologies. It is a program that recruits qualified and motivated students and prepares them for pursuit of appropriate health careers.

The Health Science Education curriculum is designed to enable students to:

  1. Select health career majors suited to their individual needs, aptitudes, abilities, and career development plan.
  2. Develop sound fundamentals based on National Health Care Skill Standards.
  3. Successfully pursue advanced education and/or entry-level employment in a health career cluster.
  4. Develop basic workplace skills and function as ethical and moral health team members.
  5. Acquire and use information relevant to remaining technologically abreast of their chosen health career majors.
  6. Develop a professional philosophy as evidenced in personal qualities and practices that improve the delivery of quality health care and health maintenance to consumers.

About Me

I am originally from Huber Heights, Ohio where I lived throughout most of elementary through high school years. After graduating I went to Wright State University where I double majored in Athletic Training and Health and Physical Education. I also was a collegiate athlete and played softball at WSU (Go Raiders!). Upon graduating I stayed at my alma mater completing my master's degree in education while being a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Men's Soccer team, Swimming and Diving program and the Softball team.

After completing my masters degree I worked as an outreach athletic trainer at Kettering Sports Medicine. My dream however was to work in the college sector so I accepted a job at North Carolina A&T State University. I spent three years as an assistant athletic trainer before being promoted to Director of Sports Medicine. After completing my time there I continued my career at Winston-Salem State University where I worked as an adjunct professor in the exercise science department and an assistant athletic trainer. While I was there I helped develop curriculum and begin a sports medicine minor.

While at WSSU, I noticed that many of my students had little direction coming out of high school. Many had never heard of the multitude of health careers available for them to pursue. Unfortunately by the time they were enlightened, they were already too far in their college majors. This revelation led me on my next path. So, in 2012 I started my journey here at Enloe High School where I began teaching health science. I wear many hats here as I am also the assistant athletic trainer, Lead HOSA advisor, and MBSA teacher.

I am passionate about teaching and trying to engage my students in many different ways. I love introducing them to areas of health care and biomedical technology that many people have never heard of. It is my hope that when they leave my class, they are able to use what they learn not only in the future, but apply it to their everyday life. I want my students to think critically and challenge the world around them by making new discoveries.

Outside of school I am happily married to my husband Eric and have two little boys. For fun I love to play softball, take my sons to the park, swim, go to movies and like many teachers live off Starbucks!

Here's to a wonderful school year! Go Eagles!!
