Stories and Dreams: An Evening with Isabel Allende
Best Selling Latin American Author to Speak at University of Nevada, Reno
            Internationally acclaimed author, journalist and speaker Isabel Allende will present an evening of stories and dreams at the Joe Crowley Student Union October 9, 2008. Sponsored by the University of Nevada, Reno Latino Research Center, Mrs. Allende’s appearance is part of the celebrations for the Hispanic Heritage Month for 2008.
            A native of Chile, Allende is a best selling author with books that have been translated into more than twenty-seven languages. She is regarded as one of the most highly praised and widely read writers of fiction in Latin America. She has won the allegiance and affection of readers and reviewers from around the world——first with The House of Spirits, (praised by Alexander Coleman of the New York Times Book Review as “a unique achievement.”), followed by Of Love and Shadows. Both books were made into popular motion pictures. Publishers Weekly says, “Allende crafts a swift, thrilling epic, packed with fierce battles and passionate romance.” LA Times Book Review says, “Allende is a genius.” Many of her works have been adapted into theater productions, operas and ballets.
            “We want to share the beauty of our Latin American heritage,” says Emma Sepulveda, the director of the Latino Research Center. “Mrs. Allende, with her wonderful books and her insights, is an inspiration to many others who have come to this country and called it home.”
            Stories and Dreams: An Evening with Isabel Allende will be held October 9, 2008 at 7pm in the ballroom at the Joe Crowley Student Union. Tickets prices range from $35 to $150. A special $1,000 sponsorship ticket includes a private meeting with the author. All tickets sales go toward funding for research at the LRC and for scholarships for UNR students.

Historias y sueños: una velada con Isabel Allende Famosa escritora Latinoamericana a presentarse en la Universidad de Nevada, Reno
 
Aclamada escritora, periodista y oradora Isabel Allende, dará una presentación al público de Reno sobre historias y sueños en el Joe Crowley Student Union, el 9 de Octubre, 2008.
Nacida en Perú y criada en Chile, Allende es autora de fama mundial con libros que han sido traducidos a más de veintisiete idiomas. Se le considera entre los escritores de ficción más aclamados y más leídos de Latinoamérica. Ha ganado el afecto y lealtad de lectores y críticos de todo el mundo – primero con La Casa de Los Espíritus (de acuerdo a Alexander Coleman del New York Times “un logro único”) seguido por De Amor y De Sombras . Ambos libros fueron recreados en películas. Publishers Weekly dice “Allende crea una historia épica, rápida, llena de feroces batallas y apasionado romance.” LA Times Book Review dice “Allende es un genio.” Muchos de sus trabajos han sido adaptados a producciones teatrales, óperas y ballet.

Historias y Sueños: Una Velada con Isabel Allende se llevará a cabo el día 9 de Octubre, 2008 a las 7:00 p.m. en el Salón del Joe Crowley Student Unión. Los precios de entrada son desde $35 a $150. El ticket de patrocinio especial de $1,000 incluye una reunión privada con la escritora. La ganancia de la venta de las entradas irá a los fondos de investigación del Centro de Investigación Latino y becas.
El Centro de Investigación Latino de la Universidad de Nevada, Reno tiene como misión servir  a la comunidad latina de Nevada,  y el resto del país. Esta misión se cumple con estudios, investigaciones y publicaciones, como también promoviendo esfuerzos educacionales en la comunidad latina.
