This project in Salem, Massachusetts entailed giving this
older fireplace facade a fresher yet traditional appearance
in character with the vintage house. 

 
Carrying the brick down to the foot of the fireplace enhances
the warm appearance of a hearth and the fireplace
becomes a stronger focal point in the room
with character and presence.

We could have chosen to go with a variety of brick and stone colors
and shapes in a decorative pattern.  The client preferred the
seasoned appearance of the varigated red brick
to give it an aged appearance consistent with the traditional
framing of the hearth and the mantelpiece that would be
added after the masonry was complete. 

 We decided to go with a simple traditional wooden moulding
and trim surround and mantelpiece around the brick to give
a continuity with the woodwork and trim that existed
throughout the residence.
