| PORTFOLIO | Demolition of original porch and rebuilding An antique Victorian home in Belmont needed some updates
Two recent deck, porch and patio projects were performed for one my client from Belmont, Massachusetts at their summer homes on Cape Cod in Falmouth. The porch on this 80 year old wood shingle single family Cape house was original to the house and after years of wear and tear, 3 very strong hurricanes, and the usual settling over time it was gradually becoming an uneven surface. We took all of the cedar plank flooring and the beadboard off of the support beams, built up the structure of the porch to become level once again and replaced the planks and beadboard with Azek Procell composite decking. Closer to the finished project The client requested that the support column, decayed fascia and skirtboard that were decayed over 80 years be replaced with new like materials or PVC which allows for less maintenance, consistent color and more durablility. The client like that appearance of the new porch so much that they decided to build a patio/deck onto their adjacent property. The deck started out as a simple 14x16 patio/deck and grew to include another adjacent section that abutted the house that originally acted as a storage area for garbage barrels.
When we got to the addition of the section close to the house we found that the gutters were routed to drains that existed underneath the patio/deck and would need to be moved to accomodate proper drainage and full use of the deck in that area without conflict.
