Pam Lorio
Hi, I 'm Pam Lorio.
I received my bachelors degree in elementary education from Our Lady of
Holy Cross College. This is my 14th year of teaching at
Visitation of Our Lady School.
In the past I have taught second, third, and fourth grades. I am
currently teaching 5th, 6th, and 7th grade honors math and
serving on our school's administrative team.
Math is my
favorite subject to teach. I strongly believe that every child
can learn to understand and enjoy math. It is important
that students understand not only the "how" but also the "why" of
solving math problems. In addition they should realize there is
always more than one way to solve a math problem. Since all
students perceive ideas and concepts in different ways, varied
teaching methods are vital to insure understanding. It is my hope
that all students experience success, joy, and satisfaction when
working with numbers. It is my belief that teachers as well as students must continue their education. This past summer I attended 3 days of training in preparation for mapping Visitation's math curriculum across grade levels. This will help us to improve our math curriculum by eliminating too much repetition and making a smoother transition between grade levels. I also attended a conference on differentiated instruction in Houston this summer. I plan to incorporate some of the strategies I learned into my instruction. It is my hope that my students will reap the benefits of my training.
This school year I will continue moderating the math club to get students excited about math and to
prepare them for math competitions held in our area. Involvement
in math competitions will increase students' problem solving skills and
expose them to new ideas. I'm confident we have many talented math
students who will be eager to participate.
Visitation is a
special place to me since my three children attended elementary school
here. Visitation has always strived to meet the needs of
all children while offering a quality education. I am
pleased to be a member of its caring and competent faculty and
administrative team.
