Science Seventh Grade

OBJECTIVE: The student will discover, through the investigation of information, how to apply, classify, make assumptions and connections, and how to interpret scientific facts.

GRADING:

Chapter Tests

Daily quizzes (all quizzes will be averaged and equals one test grade)

Projects/ Experiments

Problem solving  application

Computer research (must be completed at school )

Exam- counts as two test grades

* Students may be exempt from fourth nine weeks exam if the following requirements are met: the student received no less than two A's and one B for the previous three nine weeks and the student has an A average going into the fourth nine weeks exam.

CONSEQUENCES:

1st Offense-Verbal warning

2nd Offense- Name in conduct book- 2 points off of conduct grade

3rd Offense- Additional 2 points off of conduct grade

4th Offense- Demerit issued (Three demerits equal a detention)

5th Offense- conference with parent, student, and teacher

HOMEWORK:

The student must study each night in order to prepare for the next day. Occasionally, there will be written homework. Any homework will be due on the following day, unless otherwise stated.

TUTORING: 7:50- 8:10 Room 202

Monday and Tuesday am

Be prepared by having textbook, notebook, and any question that you may need answered. Please do not come to tutoring unprepared.

CLASS PROCEDURE:

Enter classroom silently

Unpack and copy homework

If necessary, have signed papers ready to be collected

Have required supplies on desk (notebook, pen/pencil, textbook are required each day)

TEST DAY PROCEDURE:

Pen/pencil, and highlighter only allowed at desk- books and backpacks in front or in the rear of the classroom.

Novel that you are reading may be used only if you have completed and checked your test.

Tests are usually returned to the students the next day, unless there are make up tests to be given to absent students. (IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT, HE/SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SEEING ME TO TAKE THE TEST. THIS MUST BE DONE TIMELY- (1 OR 2 DAYS AFTER RETURNING )– UNLESS THE CHILD WAS OUT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. )

Each student must correct the test and returned signed if 80 or below. It then must be kept in a safe place. Questions from the tests may be on the quarter exams.

REMINDERS:

NOTEBOOKS

ANY STUDENT WHO WANTS HIS/ HER NOTEBOOK TO BE CHECKED BY ME, MUST LEAVE IT ON MY DESK AT THE END OF CLASS. THIS IS THE STUDENT'S WAY TO BE SURE ALL NOTES ARE CORRECTLY WRITTEN. THE STUDENT WILL ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEAVING AND COLLECTING THE NOTEBOOK. ALL NOTEBOOKS MUST HAVE NAME AND HOMEROOM NUMBER ON THE COVER , SO IT CAN BE ROUTED TO THE CORRECT HOMEROOM EACH EVENING. THANKS

AVERAGES

AFTER PROGRESS REPORTS HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED, I WILL PERIODICALLY SEND HOME AVERAGES. THESE WILL BE FOUND IN YOUR CHILD'S AGENDA. THE AVERAGES MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED THE NEXT DAY REGARDLESS OF THE GRADE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL LOWER HOMEWORK GRADE BY 5 POINTS.

REMEMBER- APPLICATION OF CONCEPTS AND HIGER LEVELS OF THINKING ARE REQUIRED IN ORDER TO SUCCEED. PLEASE DO NOT DISCOURAGE YOUR CHILD. IF WE BELIEVE AND ENCOURAGE THESE STUDENTS, WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF DOING. REMEMBER , HIGH SCHOOL IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!
