    Consequences

    1st offense- warning

    2nd offense- 2 point reduction from conduct grade.

    3rd offense- additional 2 point reduction from conduct grade.

    4th offense- Demerit.

    5th offense- conference with teacher after class.

    Severe Disruption- Automatic demerit or referral to the office.



    Procedures:

    1. Students will enter the class quietly.
    2.  Take out homework, supplies, and notes
    3.  Copy homework in agenda
    4.  Raise your hand to speak
    5.  Stay focused on the lesson
    6.  Ask questions if you become confused
    7. Take notes correctly in notebook


    Homework:

    Students lose 5pts per missed assignment and 3pts for incomplete work. Study homework is given every night.   Written homework is given periodically to promote practice and mastery of skills.  Excessive missed assignments will not be tolerated.

    Procedure notices will be issued if a homework assignment is missed. After three missed homework assignments you will receive a demerit and a homework average of 85%. 

    Students are not allowed to go to their lockers if homework is forgotten.



    Materials:
    Spiral three subject notebook, composition book for DOL, index cards, pens, highlighter, and looseleaf.


    All students are expected to have supplies and textbooks each day for class.

     

     

    ***Weekly outlines of skills, vocabulary, spelling words, and test dates will be sent home on Fridays.

      Reading Comprehension

    • Students will read and test on stories weekly.  Tests will include vocabulary, comprehension of story, story elements, and other weekly skills taught.  Tests will include some matching but mostly fill in the blank, short answer, and critical thinking with written response. 
    • One or two novels will be read and discussed in class.  Vocabulary, comprehension, story elements and other skills will be taught and tested for these books.  Students will be required to purchase these books when needed.  Further details will be sent home later in the year.
    •  Students will be required to read and complete projects or tests on books from the Accelerated Reading Program.  Further details will be sent home.




    Spelling

    • Spelling words will be sent home on Fridays and can be found on my web page.
    • Pre Tests will be given on Mondays.
    • Tests will be given on Thursdays.  (Students who make a 100 on the pretest will not have to take the test on Thursdays)




      Wordly Wise

    • Students will spend two weeks covering the material from each lesson.
    • Tests will be given at the end of each lesson. (Every other Wednesday)
    • Homework will be given periodically.
    • Studying required nightly (flash cards suggested)  



    Outlines with skills and test dates will be given at the beginning of each unit.

    English/Grammar

    • Parts of Speech will be taught by units.  
    • Notes/Rules will be given and practiced using textbook exercises.
    • Tests will be given periodically throughout the unit.
    • Tests will be given when skills have been covered. 
    • Test dates given at the beginning of each unit may change due to the work pace set by each class.
    • Daily Oral Language will be practiced each day. Tests will be given periodically on skills covered.


             English/Writing
    •  Writing assignments will be given weekly.
    • Students will learn correct grammar in writing, proofreading and editing skills, collecting and organizing information, and final draft writing.
    • Students will use writing process to write paragraphs, essays, research papers.
    • Rubrics will be used to grade writing assignments.

    • Students will work on computer skills and research each nine weeks.
    • Projects incorporating the skills learned will be assigned throughout the year.
