Visitation of Our Lady School Inspiring Catholic Faith and Principles
Kindergarten Weekly Newsletter November 16th – 20th, 2009
Thanksgiving Holidays – November 23rd - 27th This week we listened to the story, A Bed for the Winter. We practiced predicting, sequencing events in the story, and blending words. The amazing words we discussed in this story are meadow, nest, sleep, winter, hive, and den. We learned that adjectives are words that describe people, animals, places, and things. We looked for adjectives in the story, and we named their opposites. We also learned that adjectives can tell number and size. We read the stories, The Pig, A House for My Fish, and Tip and Pat. The short Ii sound can be heard at the beginning of words such as insect, iguana, and igloo. The high-frequency words introduced are he and for. In Math we practiced counting and writing the numbers 11 to 20. We have also started counting by 2's and 5's. Practice counting by 2's and 5's at home, because this can be a difficult concept for some to pick up. In Religion this week we talked about our families. We shared what our families like to do together and what kinds of things our families do to share Gods Love. The children will be making Stone Soup(Vegetable Soup) next week in class. Each child will be asked to contribute one ingredient for the soup. Please bring in the assigned item in by the morning that the soup will be made, which will be Thursday, Nov. 19th. (If your ingredient is a can good bring it on Wed.) Your child, _____________________, is asked to bring ____________________________________. ** We have a student missing a hooded sweatshirt, please check to see if you might have it. The name Patrick Delger is written on the tag. Also Please be sure to write your child's name in all of their sweatshirts and jackets, so we will know who they belong to.
