Class Rules and Procedures

GRADING PROCEDURES:
    ENGLISH:
       
   WORDLY WISE: quizzes are averaged into one English test grade.  Quizzes will be given weekly.

                            

   QUIZZES:  quizzes are averaged into one English test grade. Quizzes can be given at any time..

   TESTS: tests are averaged into the final English grade at the end of each grading period. 
                Test will be given at any time the teacher deems the necessary matieral has been addressed.


    EXAM: the English exam equals to two tests and both are averaged into the final English grade.

    LITERATURE:
       
    QUIZZES: quizzes are averaged into one Literature test grade.  Quizzes can be given at any time.


    TESTS:    Literature tests are averaged into the final Literature grade at the end of each grading period.
                  Test will be given upon the completion of the applicable literary assignment.


    EXAM:   the Literature exam is equal to two tests and both are averaged into the final Literature grade.

CREATIVE WRITING ASSIGNMENTS:
    Writing assignments may be applied to either the Literature or English grade. 
    The weight of the assignment as a quiz or a test will be determined by the time dedicated to the development and completion of the assignment. 

    Writing assignments may also be graded in parts with each stage of the writing process equaling an allotted number of points of the final assignment total. 
    All formal/graded writing assignments MUST BE TYPED and DOUBLESPACED.


   SSR PROJECTS; All students will be responsible for turning in the properly formatted SSR Project on the assigned due date each nine weeks. SSR projects will equal to one test grade in             both English and Literature.  10 points will be deducted from the students final grade for each day the project is late.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:

The following is a brief overview of class guidelines each student will follow on a daily basis:  Note: failure to follow the set procedures will result in the following consequences:  verbal warning(s), agenda note to be signed, phone call to parents, demerit)

Mission Statement: All students will aspire to apply the elements of VOL’s mission statement: “Inspiring Catholic Faith and Principles While Encouraging Academic Excellence”

Classroom Behavior: All students are required to act in a polite, respectful and appropriate manner as expected from a Visitation of Our Lady student.

  Daily Supplies:  All students are required to bring all textbooks, workbooks, notebooks, loose-leaf paper, writing utensils to class.

Assignments:  All students are responsible for completing all in class and out of class assignments in the given time period.

Graded Assignments:  Any in class or out of class assignment can be used as a graded assessment. 

Make Ups: make up assignment/assessment will be set aside, and the student will be responsible for making arrangements with the teacher to complete the missed assignment/assessment.

Test Packets/Folders: Graded material will be sent home in test packets periodically during each grading period. Packets will have a coversheet showing the date, number of assessments, and a signature line for the parent.  ALL TESTS/QUIZZES MUST BE CORRECTED IN RED INK, returned on due date and placed in the student’s test folder.

Absences: Students are personally responsible for making up and turning in the late assignment upon their return to school.  (Parental notification of an extended absence is appreciated.)

Independent Reading (SSR Projects): Each nine week period each student will turn in a properly formatted SSR project based on one of the books read independently.  All students are expected to have a SSR book with them at all times.
