Hello! Welcome to my website.
About me:
This year begins my 21st year here at Visitation of Our Lady School. Prior to working here, I worked at a state-licensed preschool for three years. I also have a couple of years of public school experience.
I attended Nicholls State University and received a B.A. in Government with a dual minor in History and English. Later, I attended Our Lady of Holy Cross College where I obtained my teaching credentials. My speciality area is in Early Childhood. I am Kindergarten certified, and have also been trained in the Montessori Method and Project Read. I regularly attend continuing education classes and conferences in my field. I have also been a presentor at the Louisiana Collaborative Conference and was proud to be the Catholic school presentor that year.
My husband, Perry, and I have been married for 32 years. We have three children, Heath, Gwen, and Andre and one grandchild, Ashton. Ashton will be entering the second grade at V.O.L. in the Fall.
In my spare time, I love to go antique shoping and to auctions. I collect old religious artwork. One of my favorite pieces I've collected is a painting of the Last Supper dated in the early 1940's. It was a gift from a new husband to his bride on their wedding day. I also collect angels and my downstairs living room is called my "angel room."
I love teaching at V.O.L. because I've always felt a sense of family here. I love the people I work with and feel a closeness wtih the families of the little ones I teach.
My goals for the year are to keep expanding upon our early literacy and early writing program to hopefully participate again in our Christmas play. I am also working towards making our transition to our new location on the main campus at the end of this school year.
About our program:
We have incorporated several of the best educational approaches in early childhood to create a program that is uniquely our own. Our program is a busy one and includes many different kinds of activities. Through all of our activities, the child will be encouraged to develop good feelings about himself/herself and school, and attempt new experiences. The work done in Pre-K will be for the learning experiences involved and not for the end product that your child can carry home. Because of this your child will not be working with workbooks but with manipulative materials that are suited to his/her special interests and abilities.
The Christ Our Live Series preschool religion programs for three and four-year-olds recognizes that young children possess the gift of faith from baptism and therefore have an innate readiness for religion. It engages them in experiences that prepare them for God's message and helps them respond to it in their lives.
Pre K-3 is divided into four basic Montessori curriculum areas: Math, Everyday Living, Sensorial, and Language. The use of themes is incorporated to enhance the learning experience.
We also work on a year-long at-home project - the ABC scrapbook and dictated journal writing at school. Three pre-literacy activities are done daily in the hopes of instilling a love of reading and writing in our little ones.
The link below will bring you to our daily schedule and the attached document is an example of the weekly letter I will be sending home to parents.
