Professional Development

Education is a process that is continuously evolving to better accommodate the needs of children. Teachers as well as administrators must be committed to life long learning. Workshops, conferences, and additional training are great ways for educators to further enhance their professional expertise.

In 2005, I was accepted into the National Catholic Education Association's Leadership Academy for principals in Washington D.C. This four day academy concentrated on principals as spiritual leaders, communicators, and managers. Being able to network with principals from all parts of the country was also a valuable experience.

In July, 2007, I attended the National Association of Elementary School Principal's Summer Institute in California. The workshop sessions centered around strategies for strengthening the school's instructional program, creating a culture of excellence and building community between parents, teachers, and students. Many excellent ideas were shared throughout the institute, which I hope to incorporate here at VOL.

Yearly, the Archdiocese of New Orleans hosts an administrator's conference.  This year's conference was held in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi at the beginning of November, 2008.  Throughout the two and half days, I had the opportunity to attend numerous sessions which discussed teacher retention, teacher supervision and curriculum.

Through the Archdiocese of New Orleans, I have also completed the necessary course work for certification as spiritual leader for principals. Every four years the certification must be renewed which requires the completion of additional classes, workshops, and retreats.
