Primary Music Classes

The students in Kindergarten through 4th grades attend general music classes once a week.
K-1st graders sing and do many musical activities throughout the year.  We have a lot of fun moving and acting to music as well as learning new concepts like rhythm, tempo, and pitch.

2nd graders learn from our new music textbooks, Making Music.  These books include many wonderful songs/recordings that keep the class involved and active while teaching musical concepts.

3rd graders
learn to play the recorder in music class.  Each student purchases a recorder and book at the beginning of the year and learns to read music and play songs all year long.  Students are tested periodically and will receive a grade slip for music each nine weeks in their report cards.  Students need to bring their books and recorders to every music class - C-5 on Tuesday, C-2 on Wednesday, and C-3 on Thursday. (Students who do not have their supplies for music class will receive a supply/procedure notice the first time, and then a demerit for every time thereafter within the same nine weeks.)

4th graders participate in an extensive study of the instruments of the orchestra.  They learn about each family of instruments individually and study how each instrument works and makes sound.  There are many activities, demonstrations, video examples and games involved in this study.
