Journey Workshop

Thomas Kleinert

A lot of Journey work is going on behind the scenes! Three groups are working on their presentations of scenarios of Vine Street’s future, and only they know what they’re working on – for the rest of us, it’s going to be a big surprise. Will there be a song about Vine Street’s future, or a play? Is one of the groups working on a cartoon or a movie? Could there be a ballet with choral reading or an old-fashioned bus tour with a guide? We just don’t know, and the expectation is building!

We will gather again for a Journey workshop with George Bullard on Saturday, November 15. Read More and sign up!

The Green Way Series- Youth Group Families

You may have heard of the environmental movement as the next civil rights movement.  It is fundamentally about honoring our interconnectedness with all life forms- human, animal, and nature.  I personally believe it has the capacity to be the greatest possible civil rights movement because it addresses the core values of cherishing God’s creation and our capacity to flourish that are at the root of all other social justice issues: alleviation of poverty, animal rights, stimulation of innovation and economic growth, protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, climate change, and equality.  Put simply, this effort is about loving God, loving people, loving animals, and loving nature.

We strongly encourage the whole family (all ages!) to attend a three week exploration of what caring for the environment means for us.  During this Green Way series, we will approach our relationship to the environment at three levels: as individuals, as families, and as a church body.  Our Goals are:
1)    to strengthen our commitment to the environment (Let’s be leaders!).
2)    intergenerational Christian education
3)    to gain Big Picture perspectives and very practical knowledge

Our gatherings will be from 4:30 to 6, with dinner from 6-6:30.  The agenda is:

Session 1:  Sunday Nov 2nd
-Watch Kilowatt Ours (50 minute video)
-Ask: Where do we see God in this video?
-Discuss what we can take away and implement.
Session 2:  Sunday Nov 16th
-Each family evaluates its environmental footprint
-Consider as a group how to discuss tough issues
Session 3:  Sunday Nov 23rd
-Explore the VSCC  summer energy audit
-Determine where we want to participate
-Create solutions for how to implement these goals

Please come!  We’ll have lots of fun!  Please RSVP  by  October 29th  with the number of family members who will attend to me at 438.4386 or robin.l.porter@vanderbilt.edu.  You are welcome to come even if you don’t RSVP, but advanced notice would be helpful.

Sincerely,
Your New Intern
Robin
