SUMMER - IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CAMP!

Summer Camp plays a very important role in the lives of our children and teens. Lasting memories are created, and lives are influenced through Christian counselors and mentors.

Vine Street supports camps for underprivileged children and people with special needs of all ages, and we need your help in these very important ministries.  Read more to find out how you can help!

HOPE CAMP AT BETHANY HILLS

The “Surf’s Up” at Bethany Hills as 45 campers and 16 staff members gather on Holy Ground. We have a large group of people from the Vine Street family who are at camp this week. Please keep them in your prayers as they brave the heat, the humidity, and the ticks while creating a safe, outdoor Christian camp e xperience for the children of East Nashville.

Staff includes: Caitlin Dixon, Kennedy Shuler, Jerri Porter, Lesley Parks, Jackson Parks, Cari McDonald, Clay McDonald, Ally Faenza, Steven Welton, Sarahbeth Trull, and Ulonda Whitehead. Donquis and Alexis, Vera’s grandchildren, are attending as campers.

We have 5 more campers than we anticipated….which is a good problem!   However, that’s another $625 we need to raise. If any one would like to make a financial contribution to help offset the cost of their week at camp, please send a check to VSCC c/o Hope Camp.

TRANSPORTATION MINISTRY

We still need transportation for 7 campers on Wednesday, July 30 at 7 pm. You would be transporting HOPE Camp campers from Bethany Hills back to Eastwood Christian Church.

Please send an email to Hope Hodnett if you can help. Please include the number of children you can transport. Thanks.

JUST A LITTLE HOUSE KEEPING...

The Television is missing from Room 9 in the Youth Wing.  Jennifer Jaffari thinks it may have been borrowed for a memorial service some time ago.  Her class begins 5 weeks from now and she will need the TV back.  If you borrowed or moved the TV from Room 9, please move it back, along with the cord, or call the office and let us know where to find it.  Thank You!

THANK YOU VINE STREET FAMILY

Thank you so much for the beautiful Chalice and Paten you gave me for my ordination.  They are gorgeous!  Thank you also, for the love, support, prayers and guidance you have given me these last two years.  I could not have asked for a better church home during my divinity school years!  Thank you for sharing God's love and hospitality with me!
Love,
Allison Lanza

ALONG VINE STREET

Bill Brinton is in the hospital due to a hemorrhage in his leg and irregular heart beat. He is under observation until stable enough to return home, and will probably undergo in-home physical therapy for his leg, according to his daughter, Laura.

Emily Nichols Flinn Bradley asked that we keep her grandmother, Mary Porter Bradley, who had a stroke last week, in our thoughts and prayers. The Bradley family attended here many years ago and Emily states “I have many fond memories of my childhood in this place. Continue to keep it well. Thank you for having me back.” Emily’s parents are Nick and Martha Bradley

Scott Rollins,
Senior Minister at First Christian Church in Knoxville, is in the University of Tennessee Hospital with blood clots in his lungs. Doctors are thinning his blood to both dissolve current clots and keep more clots from forming.

Adam Janes
is a new pastor at First Christian Church, Dover. A couple of weeks ago, his seven month old son, Trooper, had a broken leg. Trooper and his mother were taken by ambulance to the Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. It was found the child has neurofibromatosis which can cause the tibia to break spontaneously. Adam, Tina, his wife, and Trooper are all looking at a very long process that may include surgeries for Trooper to heal from this break. Maurine Peake is recuperating at home from pelvic fracture. OUR TNT FRIENDS NEED A CAMP OF THEIR OWN!

Easter Seals wasn't able to accommodate many of our TNT friends at camp this summer, which left them very sad. Vine Street is stepping up to the plate, and will give them a week's worth of camp, ALL IN ONE DAY!

DATE:
August 9, 2008
TIME: 10 a.m. ‘til 7 p.m.
LOCATION: “Camp Vine Street” a.k.a. Fellowship Hall and surrounding area

We are very excited about this opportunity to serve our extended family with special needs and we hope that you will help.

Here’s what you can do:

Bring your SELF - Sign up below for a block of time (1 to 3 hours). We will be having crafts and surprise guests, two meals and snacks. We have all of the supplies, but need LOTS of volunteers.

Offer FINANCIAL SUPPORT - While there have been several donations, we still need more funds to provide this special day. Any amount will help.

• Help us CLEAN UP - We will start cleaning up at 6:30 and we should be through by 8.

 Sign Up Below!

...or, contact Phoebe Binkley if you have questions.
This is a great chance to meet our friends in TNT, who are and have been a part of Vine Street for many years.

A SPECIAL CALL TO THE YOUTH AND “JUNIOR YOUTH”: We know that you, with Hope Hodnett’s leadership, take on a tremendous responsibility for TNT from September through May. We appreciate all the hard work you do. You have come to mean a lot to our TNT friends. Although this event is not on your schedule, we need any of you who are available to help—for any length of time.

Thanks, Phoebe
