The Visitor - July 16, 2008

Dear Vine Street Christian Church,

For the outpouring of concern by friends and members of Vine Street Church for me and for Tom since my fall and subsequent "mending," I am sincerely grateful.

We have felt the results of your care and prayers for my returning health and strength and we want you to know we are deeply appreciative.

Sincerely,

Maurine and Tom Peake

A Rewarding Volunteer Opportunity for Women

For many years, our congregation has supported Better Decisions, a non-profit organization that teaches decision-making and life planning skills to inmates at the Tennessee Prison for Women.  Volunteers are needed as mentors for incarcerated women who will enroll in the 8-week program this fall.

The commitment involves attending the volunteer training weekend Sept. 13-14 (9-4 on Saturday, 1-5 on Sunday), meeting with an inmate partner for one hour weekly during the weeks Sept. 22-Nov. 10, and attending graduation at 6:00 p.m. on Nov. 17.  Register online at:

www.betterdecisions.org by AUGUST 15.

Please note that the volunteer training weekend occurs just once a year.  If you’re interested in being part of this potentially life-changing program, but can’t make the Sept. 13-14 training, you’ll have to wait until September 2009 to participate.

For more information, please contact Program Director Kathy Masulis at betterdecisions@comcast.net or at 832-8327.

Thank You Vine Street

Again I want to express our gratitude for your kindness, extended in so many ways toward Steve and me during the past few weeks.  We are very appreciative to all of you for your thoughts and prayers.

To say that the support and flexibility you have shown me throughout this difficult time has been a blessing, is quite an understatement!
