2009 Budget and LeadershipOur Congregational Meeting is scheduled for next Sunday, January 25th, immediately following the 10:45 worship service. It is very important that each member of Vine Street participates in these decisions. If you cannot make it to the meeting, you may VOTE ONLINE HERE or turn your paper ballot in to the reception area at church no later than noon, January 22nd.So, you want to run away with the circus?Well now's your chance! The Children's Choir invites you to participate in a new event here at Vine Street, The All Church Musical: The Be All You Can Be-Attitude Circus Spectacular!Written and directed by our own Andra Moran, this year's musical will teach us all about the Beatitudes of Matthew 5. The setting is on a circus train housing clowns, a lion, trapeze artists, a Strong Man and many more! The children have claimed most of the starring roles, but there are still 11 parts to be filled by grown ups (or people of grown up height). If you'd like to audition for a bit part, a cameo, a walk on or a role in the chorus, we'd love to have you! READ MORE! No Trophies: Just PrideThe VSCC youth may not have a trophy to show for their efforts; however, they’re still quite happy with their success. “With the transitions from Chi Rho to CYF and the loss of our seniors, we had to deal with newer teams,“ said Caitlyn Lovell, “the new kids who played on ChiRho had it really hard because they hadn’t been together before, yet they played like a real team.” VSCC, Woodmont and Eastwood hosted the 3rd annual Disciple Dodgeball Invitational. Teams came from Collierville, Tullahoma, Chattanooga, Livingston and Nashville to support this regional fundraiser for Week of Compassion. “Outreach is very important to the Disciples of Christ; any money raised is a step toward greater awareness and solutions to global concerns,” said Imre Soloman, “It wasn’t important who won or lost the tournament since we’re really playing these matches for a much greater cause.” Approximately $1200 was raised by the teenagers during this one-day double elimination tournament. Although the ChiRho and CYF teams were both eliminated, there is no doubt that they had the largest fan base and the most spirited attire. Cheerleader Kennedy Shuler reports, “Although neither team won trophies for their dodgeball skills, the players, coaches and supporters came to WCC dressed to the nines and cheered loudly. Vine Streeters were seen wearing everything from red jumpsuits to yellow tights and cut-off basketball shorts. Megan Jafari completed her ensemble with a red, linen halter top over her t-shirt and a headband made from the bottom of her shorts.” Partnered with Week of Compassion, the VSCC youth will continue to be winners! |
