The Visitor - June 6, 2008

Look What’s Happening in June

Our teens will be away at the CYF Conference from June 1 through 7.  This summer camp adventure is for teenagers who have just completed 9th-12th grade. The event is being co-directed by our own Tallu Schuyler and Dee Wells (formerly Ledford).  Cara Doidge will be serving as a counselor.

Mission Possible, a VSCC community ministry with 3rd-6th graders, will run from June 2-6. Volunteers are still needed for several of the afternoon mission trips.

Discovery Camp at Bethany Hills is an outdoor ministry with 2nd and 3rd graders. Imre Soloman and Ulonda Whitehead will represent VSCC as Counselors. Watch the “Prayer Partner Board” for camper names. Discovery Camp runs from June 8-11.

Firsters Camp at Bethany Hills is for children who have just completed kindergarten or 1st grade.  Allison Lanza is serving as the Director and will be assisted by Ally Faenza, Johanna Keith, and Pickles Steeves as counselors.

The Mission trip at the Heifer’s Ranch and to Allison Lanza’s ordination runs from  June 18 through the 23rd.  On this trip, our youth will sleep in a barn, swing from the trees, work to increase their awareness of hunger related issues and create a plan to make a difference.  After our time in Arkansas, we’ll jump back in the van for a return trip to Ft. Worth where we will celebrate Allison’s ordination.

Please keep the VSCC youth and children in your thoughts and prayers as they travel around the country and throughout the summer camp experience.  Check out the “Prayer Partner Board” in the reception area; it contains a list of all our participants and a place for you to sign-up to be a prayer partner during these exciting events. If you have questions about these events, contact hope@vinestreet.org

Singing together helps to bring us together and on June 8 10:45 worship will begin with a time of Gathering Songs led by Joe Keith and the Joyful Noise.

As you are gathering for coffee time in the reception hall area listen for the handbell ringer to signal time to move into the sanctuary for Gathering Songs and worship.

The June 8 Postlude Mini-Concert will feature spirituals sung by Jim Foglesong and Jan Volk followed by organ settings by American composers Alice Jordan, Calvin Taylor (Bowling Green, KY.) and Raymond Haan.  We invite you to be seated following the Benediction.

Vine Street Friends

Steve and I have had our share of trials since March 31st, yet we are certainly not defeated!  With strength that only faith can bring along with the prayers and support from our friends and family, we are slowly  finding our way through this journey.  We appreciate all of your thoughts, support and prayers more than words can express.
