Words from Thomas Thomas Kleinert
Beginning June 1, I will preach a series of six sermons on what's known as the Disciples Affirmation or the Preamble. We use this text in worship as an affirmation of faith, and I have wanted to spend a little more time with it for quite a while: I love how it breaks open the often misunderstood "I believe" into a colorful, multi-faceted "we confess, proclaim, accept, rejoice, celebrate, receive..." Every time I read it, I hear an invitation to join a conversation and a particular way of life.
This is not a statement of beliefs that declares, "This is how things are, and here is where you sign." It sounds a lot more like, "Allow us to introduce ourselves."
When we think about who we are, or talk about who we are to be, we find ourselves returning again and again to the practices and conversations outlined in these 171 words. This is how we strive to live in relationship with God, with other people, and with the world.

Volunteers Needed for Mission Possible
It's time for Mission Possible, a day camp at VSCC for 3rd-6th graders. Our young people are ready for this annual mission experience that includes Bible Study, community service, recreation, and lots and lots of relationship building. We welcome everyone to be part of the adventure! This year we will be learning about poverty and poverty relief in Nashville. We need adults to help us learn, have fun, and get around. Could you sign up for a one of our morning or afternoon time-slots? If you can help or have questions please email Allison. (Read More)
Update on The Journey
On Saturday, May 17, George Bullard presented the affirmations and challenges we all identified at the April weekend. On the "Richter Scale" of change readiness, we see ourselves at 58: Not only are we ready, we're already moving!
On Sunday, May 18, George Bullard introduced us to the Summer of Prayer and the Prayer Triplets. As of today, 46 Vine Streeters have signed up to participate, and the Journey Crew expects this number to continue to grow.
On Wednesday, May 21, the Journey Crew
put together eighteen Prayer Triplets. All participants have received
an email with the names of their prayer partners and an invitation to
use the online group Prayer Triplets as a forum. By the way, it is not too late to sign up for this essential phase of The Journey!
