2nd Sem CWTS Concerns

posted Oct 29, 2009 12:26 AM by J. Aleta Villanueva   [ updated Nov 5, 2009 11:13 PM ]

CWTS 1is pre requisite to CWTS 2. Only CWTS 2 is offered this second semester  under a pilot run mode. This means the course materials are being developed and tried  out at the same time.  By next semester, we aim to improve on this based on student feedback and evaluation.

If you have enrolled in CWTS 1 in UPOU or in any other UP unit/ college or unive, you are allowed to enroll in CWTS 2 provided you show evidence by presenting a TCG or certification. Those who have not taken CWTS 1 must cross enroll this in another UP unit/ college or unive.

CWTS 2 is a continuation of  CWTS 2 community service initiatives.
-GK track will continue with service work to the GK site daycare in Los Banos. They will undergo creative movement activities with a resource person then facilitate these sessions with the children themselves.
-To earn more service hours, you may also join a Book Drive to be spearheaded by your fellow AA student Shai Camacho.
-For Awit Foundation, initiatives started during the first semester will resume as usual.

Offshore students may enroll in CWTS 1 and CWTS 2 next schoolyear 2010-2011. In your case, you simply have to go for a student initiated volunteer track. Find out more about this. See Track 4 in this link: http://sites.google.com/a/upou.edu.ph/aa-matters/nstp-course-dev-t/nstptrack1and4

Other Options:
Students may opt to take NSTP courses outside UP/UPOU  in any tertiary level institution or unive/college  should they find it more fitting to their work priorities/conditions.
In this case,  you need to fill out a form/ request for a permit to  cross reg via the LC. Await for approval.
Once students have completed these NSTP courses, they need to request the institution to provide the UPOU Registrar's Office with   a certification of  completion plus a  Transcript of records/ True copy of grades. It is also suggested that you obtain a copy of these for your own records.

2nd SEM P.E. Courses

posted Oct 26, 2009 4:08 PM by J. Aleta Villanueva   [ updated Nov 5, 2009 8:13 PM ]

This semester's PE courses* (Yoga and Walking for Fitness) will be offered in a blended mode with the following conditions:

PE Hatha Yoga-  a minimum of 6  F2F sessions (Saturdays) is necessary to complete the course.  Time schedule will be negotiated
                           during the 1st F2F/orientation.
Regular F2F sessions will run for those who want more F2F study sessions.
Sessions will be held in QC. Some sessions will be web streamed. Videos will be uploaded on the course
site.  Some materials will have to be purchased  from the Yoga Haribol Club and made available to you through
the FIC in the middle of the course.

PE Walking For Fitness- a minimum of 4 F2F sessions is necessary to complete the course. Schedules will be negotiated with the
FIC during the 1st F2F session.

*You may take 2 PE courses per semester. But you can only take these PE courses once in your whole academic life.
In other words, Yoga is still Hatha Yoga Beginner's Level so you can't apply for this 2x. Same case applies for PE Walking for fitness

**PE courses taken from another UP unit or unive/college get automatic transfer but you need to apply for this and attach necessary certification of completion of courses which should include your grades. Refer to Transfer of Credits, sidebar.

For students based outside QC/ Manila:
You may enrol/ cross reg PE courses in a nearby U.P. unit OR university/ college then once completed, request for a TCG/certification then apply for transfer of credits.
You need to fill out a cross reg form for this.

TAKING FITNESS PROGRAMS IN A NON ACADEMIC TERTIARY LEVEL INSTITUTION IS NOT ALLOWED.

For OFF Shore students:
Option 1: You may enroll a PE course as a non degree student in a Community College or University within your vicinity. After you have earned your grade, you need to request for a TCG (true copy grades) or any certification that you completed the course and earned a grade. Then you need to  apply for a Transfer of Credits. PE courses get automatic transfer but you need to apply for this (refer to Transfer of Credits in sidebar) and provide the necessary documents.

Option 2: You may enrol for PE Walking for Fitness. Then inform your FIC that you are an offshore student. Off shore students may enroll in a fitness gym to do treadmill sessions and do this in combination with actual walking sessions in an outdoor area. You must show proof/ evidence through a certification from your gym instructor. Fitness tests will also be required in the midst of the semester. Other details/requirements will be ironed out by your FIC.

EXEMPTIONS TO PE COURSES:
1) Students over the age of 30 get automatic exemption.
2) Students who have physical disabilities and limitations should do this:
   a) Write a formal letter to the OUR stating the reasons behind your request for exemption.
   b) Attach an official medical certificate which explains the physical condition/ disability and the recommendation for exclusion from any form of challenging
       physical activities/   fitness   programs.
   c) Keep  receiving copies of all these documents.

AA to BAMS

posted Oct 26, 2009 3:57 PM by J. Aleta Villanueva   [ updated Oct 28, 2009 5:42 AM ]

If you are in your last semester/school year of the AA Program, with a few remaining courses under the AA, and you are serious  about going for the BAMS Program, you may request to take 1-2 BAMS courses.

Please be reminded of the following steps and guidelines:

1) Email the AA program chair at aaprogram08@gmail.com for your request.

2) The Program Chair shall check your records with the OUR. Ideally, you should have settled your EXT's
and finished  most of your  AA courses.
Another consideration is that you will not be overloaded by taking an extra course outside AA, in this case, a BAMS course.
The priority of course is for you to finish your AA courses.
Also be reminded that  you are still an AA student taking additional courses which can be credited
later on to your Bachelor's Degree.

3) The Program chair will also check for the availability of courses which you can be allowed to take.
For this semester, only BAMS 171 is available for you to take. This has no pre-requisite unlike other BAMS courses.

4) Upon review of your standing, the Program Chair shall then respond to your request and cc the BAMS Program Chair and their
   admin staff.

5) Upon enrollment, you must show the printed versi
on of the approval  to the the LC staff/ coordinator.
