Dear Aleta:

Dev-com or org com will be good. But from my observations, I have long wanted to develop a bachelors degree on Organization Development. Since most of the students are already employed or have their own businesses, this course will go a long way towards developing competencies along the following lines:

-          Strategic Thinking

-          Change Management

-          Change Planning

-          Leading Change

-          Project Management

-          Organizational Communication

-          Performance Management in the Workplace

-          Strategic Planning

-          Operations Planning

-          Strategic Mobilization

-          Monitoring and Evaluation

-          Problem Solving and Decision Making

-          Coaching and mentoring

-          Talent Management

-          Career Planning

-          Strategic Training &Development

-          Development of training & Instructional materials

-          Adult Learning/facilitation  Skills

-          Other Soft skills (time management, stress management,

I have more than 15 years of experience on these and I have experience in Curriculum Development with the University when we proposed and successfully established the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy course in  UPLB.

This course I am suggesting can establish the UPOU as a center of learning for Practical Organization Management which can directly impact on actual businesses and organization and allow us to be seen as a real time contributor to nation building.

To start with, we can offer  individual courses on any of the topics to gauge acceptability. Gradually we can develop it into a  Diploma course and then into a BA course (Even a BS course ).

I am ready, willing and able to help the University in this. Right now, my exposure in International Coaching and Organization Development will go a long way to help it. There is likewise no shortage of people who have the capacity to do this.

Only if we are given a chance to develop it…

BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PRACTICAL ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT

It has been my long standing dream.

Haka ka. Na-excite na naman ako.

Para sa Bayan,

Larry

Hi Juliet,

The idea of a Bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies, or even perhaps Philippine Studies, or Asian Studies, or Southeast Asian Studies (the latter to be pursued with other OUs in the Asian region) would be worth working on.  Yes, it's a good idea to design a continuous (sliding) curriculum, making it possible for multiple entries and multiple exits, both vertically and horizontally.

Vertical multiple entries and exists will follow the following thrusts:

Stage 1, the AA;
Stage 2, 2nd two years towards a bachelor's program where major courses are taken;
Stage 3, post baccalaureate certificate program;
Stage 4, master's degree;
Stage 5, specialist's degree;
Stage 6, doctorate degree.

Horizontal multiple entries/exists would refer to the following directions:

Stage 1, AA
Stage 2, 2nd 2 years towards a Bachelor's degree with choices in various areas of specialization such as multimedia studies, organization development, interdisciplinary studies, Philippine studies, etc.  That means, we have to develop those programs.

Initially, what could be done is to identify if there are courses in that are already existing that could be regrouped to fit, say, the major courses for interdisciplinary studies, etc.  This way, we need not worry about formulating new courses that have to go through the standard curricular approval process.  Let's use whatever existing courses there are -- put them to multiple uses in different degree programs to increase their efficiency as courses.

By the way, in universities abroad, there are university colleges.  The university college is responsible for offering the GE program.  We should establish a university college at UPOU to be responsible for the offering of a strengthened AA.  I see that in the next few years, under a university college, the AA will be a primary option for UPCAT passers who can't be acommodated in the different campuses due largely to lack of facilities.  Furthermore, the different UP campuses, including other state universities and private universities will ultimately ask their students to take the AA as a replacement for their respective GE programs because these institutions will focus on major courses, rather than the GE courses, which would make them much more efficient.  That would make UPOU's University College a feeder college for most universities.  This would entitle UPOU's University College special funding assistance from CHED because it would be a feeder college.

Cheers!

Hi Aleta,

If I had support, I wouldn't mind spearheading the development of the following undergrad degrees:

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management (or BS Environmental Science)

Bachelor or Arts in Property Valuation (there are lots of undergrad programs like this in Australia, New Zealand, etc.)

Regards,

Luna
