Hot Links

Use this page to post great resources and tools that you feel others in the community should check out.  Any link worth posting should include an "idea sparker" for how it could be used by teachers to engage students.  Actually, I just want to encourage us to provide examples for how a resource or tool might be used to help encourage their use.  If you run across great professional development or reading resources for educators, add them in the "Library" section.  You can also use the attachments feature below to add documents or files.

WorldTV: This Web2.0 tool allow you to mix or mash-up video clips to broadcast your own iChannel.  It is simple to use! It took about 5 minutes to create a channel and produce my first broadcast.  I found 4-5 videos that I was interested in seeing, loaded them up, and when I was home that night I just tuned-in and watch my channel for about 2 hours.  My computer can be hooked into my TV at home, so I was able to watch on the big screen!  I was able to contact site developers and encouraged them to add TeacherTube as one of the choices for where you can search and add video content.  Our school district blocks many other video sources (ex. YouTube, Google Video, etc.).  Also, part of the tools included in WorldTV allow you to record your video... all you need is web-cam/microphone.  You could also upload video projects into TeacherTube and then link them in to play on your channel.  It has a great full-screen mode and the clarity of videos in full-screen mode has been good.

Ideas for use:
  1. I have been working with our 4th grade on projects where they have developed historical time-lines and then create their own channel to order videos that are aligned with key events in their time-line.
  2. I used this channel to share examples of how other schools were creating video projects... school board meeting, district promos, school tours, student projects, etc.
  3. I am having kids and staff come in and use the recording feature to do a news broadcast of our monthly newsletter articles.
I would appreciate any ideas others might have for using this tool.  Please feel free to attach your ideas to this post by using the comments box.  Click on the title of this post "WorldTV" to go to the post sub-page and use the comments box below the post entry.
